“How do I Start from Scratch?” and other Questions…

FEATURED ON -
by Nick Stephenson in Books and Writing

“If you had zero budget, how would you start growing an audience?”. “What’s the best way to publish my audiobook?”. “How can I find more readers in my genre?”.

These are just a few of the (many) questions I get from authors every day. So, in an effort to blast through a few common roadblocks, today I’m answering questions from authors all around the world about how to gain exposure, sales, and grow an audience – check out the full video below:

Nick, Happy Birth Day and thanks for the video Q&A. Here’s my question: My nonfiction business book Minds at Work is being published by a well-known publishing company. They are taking care of the marketing and social media. Questions: A. What else can I do to help the book a. become a bestseller? and B.How can I leverage the book into a high-paying consulting business?

  4. Danielle de Valera says:

    Happy Birthday for yesterday, Nick!

    HI Nick,
Thanks for all your help, appreciate the time you give. I have a question. Do you recommend facebook lead ads, how much is too much to pay for lead and what do you do to refresh the lead gen ad when it starts drying up or slowing down, and when you have targeted every author you are able to in your genre a number of times. (including: free ebook, and goodreads etc as targets)

    Thanks again

Are you an Amazon/KDP author only, and have you ever considered the IngramSpark platform? What do you see as the pros and cons of NOT being exclusive to Amazon?

  7. Richard Paterson says:

    Hi Nick,
The reason I have been putting off starting your course is because I am already selling a few books through my website (for $15 US) and I am assuming that I can’t sell ebooks for different prices on different platforms eg $15.00 through the website and $1.99 on Amazon. I have resistance to starting from scratch and losing the few sales I already have, even though I suspect I could sell a lot more over time using your strategies. Any thoughts ?

  8. Annie Adams says:

It’s my birthday today! Thanks for the birthday gift.

  9. Steven V Turner says:

Brilliant show Nick, and happy birthday. Yours was the very first web course I purchased and quite honestly one of the best investments I’ve ever made, thank you.
    PS.
Please let me know what address I can use to send your birthday present, a lovely pair of tartan slippers 😉

    Hi Nick,
Great session. Short questions and short to the point answers.
My question is can I use short story giveaways to build my email list. If so, where and how.
    Thanks

Thank you for closing some doors for me whilst kicking open those that lead to where I need to go.
I appreciate your clarity and patience.

Nick! We have the same birthday – hope yours was grand.
What are you thoughts about Wattpad? Have you seen it work well as a platform
for leading readers to an author page/ email list?
Any other clever ways to reach out to Middle Grade readers (many of whom do not have facebook or email)?

    Cheers for answering,
    Mez

  17. Joseph Bendoski says:

How do you promote a giveaway? It’s easy enough to set up, but how to do you promote it some people know about it?

  18. Greg says:

How do I start with Book bub? They say it’s only open to free books with more than 10 5 star reviews

  19. Marcus says:

I have a series of 7 fiction books and my reader magnet Is book 1. Is it a good idea to give away the audiobook of the reader magnet as a free gift in exchange for an email address or a review?

  20. Amanda says:

Very informative. I copied down some of the answers that I could as you went along. Might it be possible for you to provide a PDF of these Q&A sessions afterwards, so people like me can capture the relevant information? Also, I like the action figures you have on the window sill behind you. Very cool!. I took part in your free Story Engines course a while back, but only listened to the first two. Only later did I discover there was a third one. Any chance you might have that course out again at a later stage? Thanks for doing these videos and providing all this great information. I’m sure you’re helping lots of people by sharing.

hi Nick, thanks so much for the first video, lots of juicy goodness. You spoke about the best way to write a fiction blurb. Do you have any tips for a non-fiction blurb/ book description?

  25. Junis says:

If you join the Amazon Affiliate program would that give you a better way to track the sales success of the books promoted on your blog or FB page?
